After many months of planning, researching and excitement, our amazing vacation to commemorate my 50th birthday is here! We both love traveling in Europe and decided to visit France, Paris and the Normandy region to be exact.
We leave Austin on Labor Day, and fly to Amsterdam (our frequent flyer miles wouldn’t get us all the way to Paris and we love Amsterdam anyway.) From Amsterdam, we hop on a high speed train to Paris and will arrive there early in the afternoon on September 2. Our plans for Paris include all the usual sites. We rented an apartment just a few blocks from the Louve, it has a tiny balcony with a table for two, very Parisian!
After a week in Paris we take the train to Caen in Normandy and pick up a rental car. Steve found a private tour guide who will show us the areas where Steve’s dad fought during WWII and we will see the D-Day beaches. We also plan to see Mont. St. Michel and drive to Etretat to see the beautiful French coastline. From Normandy, we take the train back to Paris and then back to Amsterdam for four days. Amsterdam is beautiful, the architecture, canals and we especially like to take the train outside the city and rent bikes for riding around the countryside.
I’m going to attempt to keep an up-to-date blog during the trip. I may not post everyday, we will see how it goes. I really enjoy my friend Pam Pate’s blogs from her trips, so I thought I would give blogging a try. Here is a map to give you an idea of where will be for the next couple of weeks.
